The Big Four GSM network operators in Nigeria: MTN Nigeria (N360m), Airtel Nigeria (N270m), Globacom (N180m) and Etisalat Nigeria (N360m), were recently fined a total of N1.17billlion by the Nigerian Communications Commission over poor quality telephony services.
On the sidelines of a Stakeholders Forum held June 1, 2012 in Lagos by the Commission, Director Public Affairs, NCC, Tony Ojobo explains the reasons for the sanctions; the stance of the telecoms regulator on the payment of the fines and allied issues of service quality in the Nigerian telecoms industry.
